If he sincerely obeys and worships Allaah, every matter that he hates will be good for him; but if he abandons obedience and worship, every matter that he loves will be evil and bad for him. Whoever truly knows Allaah, His Names and His Attributes, will surely know that any distress or harm that has happened to him bears interest and benefits that his mind cannot comprehend. . .

Loving parents do the same to their children because they understand the benefits. Sometimes the cure for the child is painful, but the parent will still do it and all this will be done the sake of mercy and pity. Perhaps the parent will perceive some benefit for the child by not financing him, so he will not give to him, because he knows that these are the important causes of decay. He also prevents him from many pleasures in order to protect him. The Most Just among judges, the Most Merciful among those who are merciful, and the Most Knowledgeable among those who have knowledge, who is more merciful to His servants than themselves, their fathers, and their mothers, if He allows them to be inflicted with evil, that will be better for them than not inflicting them. If they had the chance to choose for themselves, they would never be able to benefit by it. However, Allaah, the Exalted, manages their lives according to His knowledge, wisdom, and mercy. . .

Only those who knows and believe in His Names and Attributes do not accuse Him or doubt one of His judgments but only those who do not know His Names and Attributes argue with Him about His judgments and doubt His Wisdom and fail to submit to His judgment. They even oppose it with their spoiled minds, false opinions and unjust policies. They neither knew their Lord, or obtain any benefit. Whenever a servant has this knowledge, he will live in a Paradise on earth before he enters the Paradise of the Hereafter. he will be satisfied and pleased with his Lord and will be satisfied with the paradise in this worldly life. The servant will be pleased with whatever happens to him because he knows that it has been chosen by Allaah and this is acceptance of Allaah as his Lord, Islaam as his religion, and Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) as his Messenger. The one who is not able to do this will never taste the sweetness of faith. This pleasure depends upon how much he comprehends the justice of Allaah, His Wisdom, Mercy and Good Choice. The more he knows, the more pleasure and satisfaction he will have. Allaah judges his servants according to justice, benefit, wisdom and mercy.

Ibn ul-Qayyim ~ Al-Fawaa’id

 أَنَّ دينَ الأنبياءِ واحدٌ، وهو إِخلاصُ العبادةِ اللهِ وترك الشرك وإِنِ اختلفْ شرائعُهُم 2

  1. Though they are of various legislations, all Messengers call for one common religion, which is consisted in devoting all acts of worship solely to Allaah and associating no partner with Him.

Second point: The religion of the Prophets is one. It is to purify ones’ worship of Allaah and abandon all forms of shirk (associating partners with Allaah). This has (always been the case) even when the Prophets had differences in the application of their messages throughout different times. Meaning, it was impermissible for such and such nation to eat such and such food in this time that they lived in and another nation may have been allowed to eat that food, etc.  There are some different, specific rulings given to each nation. Again, all under the specific legislation of Allaah. So therefore, it was the most suitable and best legislation for each people in each time.

Imaam of Yemen, Muqbil bin Haadee Al-Waadi’ee, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said:

“And verily the Muslims today have been tested with hizbiyyah, (the hizbiyyah) that corrupted a lot of the youth and divided the unity of the Muslims, and the Lord of Honour and Power says,

And hold on to the rope of Allaah all together and do not be divided (amongst yourselves)”

Al-Imraan-103

Verily the believers are nothing more than brothers

– Al-Hujaraat:10

O you who believe! Let not a group scoff at another group, it may be that the latter are better than the former, nor women scoff at other women, it may be that the latter are better than the former...”

Al-Hujaraat-11

And the Hizbiyoon, whoever is not with them they abandon and keep away from him, and La Ilaaha Illa Allah! How many of the youth have become corrupted because of Hizbiyyah, he may have memorized the Qur’aan, excellent in the sciences of the Religion, and if he affiliates with them, they busy him with nonsense and falsehood to the extent that his knowledge leaves (him).

And people split up into two groups, the party of the Most Gracious and the party of Satan, just as Allah informed us in His Book.”

That which separates the people of truth and the people of falsehood is the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

Al Haakim said: I heard ar-Rabee’ [saying]: I heard ash-Shaafi’ee, and indeed he was narrating a hadeeth. So a man said to him: Will you implement this O’ Abaa Abdillaah? So he said: If I narrate an authentic hadeeth from the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) and I don’t implement it, then you can testify that my intellect has left!

[Reported by Ibn Abee Haatim in Aadaabush Shaafi'ee Wa Munaaqibuhu (p. 93), and by Imaam adh-Dhahabee in Mukhtasir Al Uloow' (no. 197) It's chain of narration is authentic. It was authenticated by Shaykh al-Albaanee in Sifatus Salaah (fifth edition) (p. 33)]

A man came to Imaam Maalik Ibn Anas (radiyallaahu ‘anhu) and said: From where should I put on the ihraam? So he said: From the place where the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) stopped and put on ihraam. So the man said: So what if I put on ihraam from farther than that? So Maalik said: I do not advise that. So he said: What do you dislike about that? He said: I dislike the Fitnah upon you. He said: And what is the Fitnah in increasing the good?! So he said: Verily, Allaah the Exalted says,

“So let those who oppose his (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) command beware that a Fitnah may strike them, or a painful punishment.”

And which Fitnah is greater than you specifying an action with virtue which was not specified by the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam)?

Ibn Qayyim said:

If Allaah ta’aala intends good for the needy slave He trials him with something in order to bring him down and to lower his neck in humiliation and to decrease his importance to himself. However if Allaah intended for him (the slave) anything other than good He (Allaah) would have left him alone and his vanity and pride and this is the deception which necessitates his destruction.

al-Waabil as-Sayyib min Kalim at-Tayyib

Hudhayfah said,

“The first thing you will lose of your religion will be Khushû and the last thing you will lose of your religion will be the prayer, and it is well possible that there is no good in a person who prays, and soon will come a time when you shall enter a large Masjid and not see a single person with Khushû‘.’

It’s important to mention that some people give precedence to the one who is a hafidh. It might be said about someone that he memorized 70, 000 hadeeth or he’s memorized a 100, 000 hadeeth. His claim to scholarship is a large amount of memorized information.  But, no one from the scholars will endorse his knowledge as they can’t recognize his level of understanding. Thus it’s simply just memorization and in that way, the likes of this person is not to be given precedence over people who have understanding. Even if the latter’s memorization doesn’t match the former’s memorization. True knowledge in its application, implementation and the use of it to solve the problems of the whole world isn’t limited to a memorization of a text. It goes beyond that. It goes to applying that text; it goes to real life situations. So again we do not given precedence to lots of memorization over understanding in the religion.

Ash-Shaykh Saalih as-Suhaymi (haafidahullaahu ta’aala) used to recite these two lines of poetry to his students and one time he gave a short explanation for those lines of poetry.

“Intelligence is something Allaah (subhanaahu wa ta’aala) gives to many people. However, some people use it to aid ignorance or evil, or to promote filthy ideas of falsehood. If a person uses that intelligence for beneficial knowledge, paired with righteous actions, then it will benefit him. And if he uses it for other than that, then it will only be a proof against him.”
